Lunch Stop in Lonoke

I only had one shot at Pruett’s in Lonoke on a quick trip to purchase some Nigerian dwarf goats. So I didn’t let the opportunity go to waste. I ordered both the catfish plate and a cheeseburger and three slices of coconut cream pie!

When I left the breeder I asked for her recommendation for a good lunch spot. She pointed me to Pruett’s in Lonoke. Little did I know this 35 year+ restauratuer was going to provide me one of the finest quick-service dining experiences I have had on the road. Rhonda, the owner and her “twin sister from another mother” Wanda, the waitress showed me great hospitality and welcomed me into the restaurant before their regular lunch crowd showed up. The restaurant only had five tables due to COVID restrictions so space was limited and filled up fast as I was leaving. I’m sure during the rush hour there is a line to get in to eat.

The catfish was delicious – crispy and seasoned well. The plate included straight-cut fries, hushpuppies, slaw and tarter sauce. I ordered the two-piece as I also anticipated trying their cheeseburger. The burger was hand-pattied and cooked well. It was even sliced to check for doneness.

The highlight though was the coconut cream pie. I ate one slice before my meal. Then I ordered two more slices to take home with me. The meringue was thick and the coconut was creamy with a slight crunch in the crust. It was delightfully sweet and a great prelude and conclusion to my meal.

If you’re traveling on I-40 around Lonoke, I would encourage you to stop in and meet Rhonda and her crew and enjoy a great meal!
